I read the manhua two years ago, saw the anime and live amazing adaptations The Untamed ( with Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan) and now I'm reading these official translations. For me, it's impossible to separate the reading of this novel from his fond memories of its live action adaptation The Untamed. I'm so in love with this story. The strengths of the novel that stood out for me included the subtle and witty bantering dialogues and hilarious interactions between the two lead characters Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji ( commonly referred to by fans as WangXian). The loyal and enduring friendship between them, the complex politics that surround the various cultivation clans and sects, the constant questioning of the meaning of good and evil and of course the love and familial bonds. Wonderfully spooky, tragic and romantic. If you want a series that will forcefully rip your heart out of your chest and then shove it back, do not hesitate. WangXian really have a love story for the ages.
